How do i create a more reliable connection on my Xbox 360?

Buy a super long ethernet cord and plug one end in the router and then trail it through the wall or make a small hole in the floor and put it through to the basement and plug it into the back of the xbox 360. this will give you direct connection which is the fastest possible connection. if its still laggy its either the games server or you have really crappy internet service. thats the only way I can see to make it faster. its not as hard as it sounds too.
