Why do some say we are saved by faith alone? Why then did paul say this?

We are not saved by faith alone, we are saved by grace alone (Ephesians 2:8-9) through faith. But faith is a gift of God and is evidence of our salvation (Hebrews 11:1) not the cause of it.
