How to get a guy to like texting you?

I need help badly -_- my bestfriend found me a prom date a while ago, she used to like him and it is her brothers friend. I met him for coffee with a couple of my friends and texted him a bit after that. Then before prom me and my mom met up with him to pick out a tux and went for dinner. It went pretty well, started texting more often. Then prom came and he didn`t really hang out with me at all during prom so i just let him do his thing... I ended up getting sick so i left him at prom early and he said he would get a ride from his buddy. so we kind of have stopped texting each other since after prom but i was kind of hoping to maybe start dating. So i try to text him but he just gives me one word replies then just randomly stops replying. but here`s the thing! hes known my friend since she was little and she has a boyfriend but he texts her ALL THE TIME and long sentences too!, he also calls her hun and will reply to her if he falls asleep, he would never do this to me. So i don`t know what to do, I want him to text me how he texts her and go on dates with him but not until i feel like he actually wants to be around be and talk to me. what should i do? hopefully this made sense!
