Is it normal for guy friend to say this?

I have guy friend who has been my good frd from quiet some time. But these days he has been acting weird like he has starting saying "hun" or sth like "its always nice to hear from you". i know its normal among girls to use word Honey but I don't knw if it normal among guy friend to say this. I would appreciate any advice.
